365 A Daily Creativity Journal – Day 56

Imagination is the Key to Creativity

It’s all very well imagining it, but you still gotta do it.

Had so much fun doing yesterday’s page that I had to do another just like it!

Started by spraying inks over stencils. Then stamped with my new favorite thing, home-made styrofoam stamps. After that I doodled some flowers with marker pens and painted them with acrylic paint.  Back to the markers and outlined the petals with black.  Doodled some wavy lines and added the text.

The quote goes, “Imagination is the key to creativity. Take all the possibilities you’ve ever noticed and weave them together.” Abe-Hicks.

Flower Doodles

Had to do something with that stencil-ink-spray background I did the other day so turned the blue stamped circles into flowers. Very roughly painted and outlined with black marker. Added some nonsense text and tally-ho! I do like a quick one sometimes! I’ve just signed up for an online course in lettering, so look out for improvements in that department soon.

Layers and Layers and Layers, Oh My!

Idly trawling around Youtube yesterday wondering what to do with some black styrofoam/polystyrene saved from a couple of frozen pizzas, I came across this video. I was on it right away and created this cool background (and several more) with one stamp and some heavy-bodied acrylic paint, including gold. I white gessoed the page first but, yep, that is a pink elephant peeking through.

So today, I simply went to town with layering – I can barely remember what’s on the page, truth be told. Collage, stenciling, shading, corrector pen, journaling, doodling, and finally I rubbed on some yellow then white soft pastel to give the page a distressed look.

Our house, in the middle of our street…

A cold and miserable rainy day,

The perfect time to art and play.

Printed out the grid doodle I made yesterday, glued it into The Book with Mod Podge. Collaged some little houses made from my fabric paper. Printed out the words (Betsy Flanagan font) and collaged them onto the page. Added the angel postage stamp and it is done.

Wild

In the spirit of ‘more is more’, this page has been layered with paper torn from an old atlas, bordered with black acrylic, shaded and tinted with Neocolor lls, stamped and stenciled, painted with more acrylic, doodled on with Faber-Castell Big Brush Artists’ Pens and corrector pen, collaged and a little more Neocolor lls scrubbed on. Phew!

Zenspirations

Sandy Steen-Bartholomew mentioned in a recent blogpost that she’s become enamored by Zenspirations by Joanne Fink. I’ve seen this little book on Amazon and I think it’s going to find its way onto my already cluttered desk. At first glance it seems a little simplistic, but sometimes simple is very good.

On the previously painted background I just took a marker and Zendoodled.

Today’s page was created with an acrylic background, collage (fabric paper again), and doodles. I added charcoal for shading and drew over the bird that was already printed on the page. There’s room for more here.

I Love Flowers

Page gessoed, painted with acrylics – semi mixed because I love the streaky look. Covered with craft tissue paper to add texture while wet. Stamped through some sequin waste/punchinella. Collaged on some pieces cut from previously made fabric paper. These were doodled on and stitched, then highlighted with oil pastel. The flower isn’t completely stuck down but has a 3-D look.  More oil pastel added around the border. Then I rubbed two stamp pads across the flower to grunge it down a little. Finally rubbed on some lovely gold powder I discovered in a drawer the other day.

I’ve done the same background on the opposite page ready for… I have no idea as yet!

Harry Catman has improved immensely – thank heavens and the Goddess of Cats.

Art Journal Page & a ZIA

Didn’t get to post yesterday as we were out for the afternoon and evening. Went to see a Fleetwood Mac tribute band. Was v. fun. Anyway, I did this Zenangled-inspired piece the day before…

…and then today, I sat in the sunshine nursing a slight hangover and drew a girl-face. Wasn’t quite sure what to do with her and placed it on the table nearby and saw some interesting shadows cast by a lowering sun and my honeysuckle. I left the sketchpad where it was and just outlined a few of the shadows. Turned them into leaves and colored in the negative space with a dark background. All done with Inktense and some other random watercolor pencils.
